T'Nalak Festival

 

The T'nalak festival is celebrated during the foundation anniversary of the province of South Cotabato, and is held in the month of July in the provincial capital of Koronadal City. This celebration kicks off with the Dayana Civic Parade highlighted by a float and cheer dance competition and closes with the T'nalak Parade or Madal Bel'.

The Hinugyaw Festival in Koronadal City is held every January 3-10 of the year and often named as the "Festival of Festivals", is a celebration of the different cultures that has dwelled on the fertile valley of Koronadal.

Preserving Culture

the T'boli tribe of Mindanao

 

A documentary about the T'boli tribe in South Cotabato, Mindanao, Philippines. Videography and Editing by Alan Geoghegan. The tribe are masters at music, dance and story-telling and are internationally renowned for their abaca-woven Tnalak cloth. Being with the T'boli tribe is a tremendously rewarding, artistically, culturally and spiritually. 

This video is dedicated to Gumbay Sulan, a T'boli Bamboo Zither player, who passed away after this video was made.

BLIT-B'LAAN : Philippine Dance from the B'laan People, a courtship dance imitating forest birds during the mating season. All movements of the Blit-B'laan are done with the knees slightly bent. Two male dancers that represent richly-plumed male birds eye three females. The females try to hide from the males, burying their heads under their wings, which are represented by their malongs. Still, the aggressive males pursue them.
