SIBUYAN ISLAND, VIDEO (19.33 MIN)
Sibuyan Island is one of a small group of islands off the north of Panay, which also includes the islands of Tablas and Romblon. The slopes of the highest mountains on the island, Mt Guiting-guiting
and Mt Nailog, are generally steep and in some areas virtually inaccessible to humans. The name of the former mountain translates
from Ilongo, the principal language spoken on Sibuyan Island, as "saw-tooth," which describes the series of precipitous jagged peaks that are so conspicuous from the lowlands

VIGAN
Vigan, an island up to the 17th century, lies at the mouth of the Abra River (the biggest among the Western Luzon rivers), a fact that logically made
Vigan one of the most important trading posts along the Ilocos coast during the pre-Hispanic era. Now, Vigan (provincial capitol
of Ilocos Sur) is a "charmed" town that has managed to preserve its old houses and quiet ways. UNESCO cites: "It is the best
preserved example of a planned Spanish Colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of the cultural elements from
elsewhere in the Philippines and from China with those of Europe to
create a unique culture and townscape without parallel anywhere in the East and Southeast Asia."

Amanpulo, Pamalican
Amanpulo is set on the tiny private island of Pamalican, part of a group of almost 1800 islands to the south
west of Manila. The island is surrounded by white sand beaches,
turquoise waters and a coral reef 300 metres from the shore. Amanpulo has 40 superbly furnished casitas spread along the beach
and perched on the hillside. There is a vast pool, open air spa and a fleet of boats for hire. But ultimately it is the white
sand beaches, aqua blue waters and superb service that make Amanpulo so special.

The Bats of Samal
Island
The Bat Sanctuary
of Samal Island is home to 5 major bat colonies. It is the habitat of millions of bats belonging to the species Rousettus
Amplexicaudatus. Very little is known about bats and the information is oftentimes misleading or innacurate. The loss of bats
could devastate whole ecosystems, dramically increase demand for harmful pesticides, and wreck havoc on your grocery list.
The Bat Sanctuary
of Samal Island envisions contributing to the growing body of knowledge in the study of bats through research findings. There
is far too little research on bats and the impact on the environment, but from what has been discovered, bats play a key role
in maintaining an important balance in the ecosystem. Currently, the bat caves of Samal Island are unprotected and serve as
an unregulated tourist attraction, putting the bats and the habitat at risk.

The Ati-Atihan is the Philippine equivalent of the Mardi Gras in terms
of costumes and street revelry. However, it is also a multiple celebration: in honor of the Santo Nino; of the friendship
between the indigenous peoples of the Philippines and the newly arrived Malays in the 13th
century, and thanksgiving. In the Philippines, the participants cover themselves with soot ,since the indigenous peoples
are dark-skinned. In the Philippines, the Ati-Atihan is celebrated on the same day as the feast of Santo Nino.
