Koronadal City is situated in the North-Eastern
part of the province of South Cotabato and only an hours drive away from General Santos City, the city has a favourable geographical
location, right in the heart of beautiful sceneries and natural resources. Janauary 10 of each year is proclaimed as the Municipal Town Fiesta, commemorating the foundation of Marbel.
The average annual temperature is about 27.07 degrees
centigrade, the warmest temperatures in the city are during the months of April and October, while the coolest months are
December to January.
Temperatures below the annual average are felt
in the upland areas, rainfall in the city is more or less even during the year and because of the mountain ranges, tropical
depressions rarely affect the city.
The name Koronadal is believed to have been derived
from two B'laan words: koron or kolon, meaning cogon grass and nadal or datal, meaning
plain which describes the place of the natives.
The name Koronadal alone conjures the image of a crown, and true enough
being South Cotabatos capital, it is the crowning glory of the exotic, eclectic province. It is the center of
all major fetes and festivities, the business mecca, the melting pot of modern nomads from around the world, and the site of the must-experience Mambucal Sulfur Springs.
Visiting South Cotabato, situated at the southern part of Mindanao, one can always be
sure of the welcoming, hospitable spirit of the true Pinoy.

T'nalak Festival 2007
July 2007, Thousands of visitors and local residents gathered to join the
weeklong revelry as this year’s T’nalak festival opened to celebrate
the foundation anniversary of South Cotabato. Various civic and ethnic programs,
including an exhibition of different products of South Cotabato, were presented to showcase the rich and colorful heritage
of several minorities such as the B’laans, T’bolis and other Maguindanao communities.
|
The
T’nalak Festival will showcase the province as a land of countless possibilities enhanced with the fusion of rich culture
and progress. T'nalak, a unique yet colorful way of weaving the abaca cloth by the T'boli tribal communities in South Cotabato,
has gone beyond mere cloth weaving or art itself. Residents
of this resource-rich province have taken pride of the t'nalak as being reflective of South Cotabato's varying regional and
ethnic cultures, belief, dialects and art woven together to form a wonderful tapestry.
